No matter how you slice it or dice it, Apple is losing the smart phone market share battle. For now Apple has a huge lead in the apps space and mindshare among developers. The marketshare story though doesn't lie. If the long-term trend is towards Android as the "Windows" of the smart phone market developers will switch over very quickly. The smart money (or any money) may not be there but once the numbers are there in terms of users, you can be sure you can make money writing apps for Androids over iPhone.
The writing is on the wall, Apple. Apple has jumped the shark, yet again. Apple lost the PC battle for the enterprise customer between 1985 and 1995. They had every reason to build out a "Macintosh Office" in the mid 80s, and failed to do so. It took Steve Jobs to bring them back from near-death, but unfortunately he is not there to guide them now. I wonder if Google will take over the mantle of the true consumer-oriented company in the second decade of the 21st century. Let's see where this is by end of 2012.
